Patient Case Study of Chin Surgery – Advanced Genioplasty

Chin Surgery (Genioplasty) Case Studies

Chin surgery, also known as genioplasty, is a procedure commonly performed by Dr Hunt. Genioplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin in some way. Dr Jeremy Hunt has performed genioplasty procedures to move the chin forward (Chin Augmentation), move it backwards (Chin reduction) and move it up or down and to reshape or realign the chin. Here are some patient case studies for genioplasty.

Patient Case Study 2 – Genioplasty Surgery Implant

In cases where the bone is not favourable for use, a chin implant is an alternative option. If less significant changes are required, the use of injectable dermal fillers can achieve a mild increase in the prominence of the chin.

The Relationship Between the Chin and your Nose

Both the chin and nose are prominent facial features. Often an adjustment in the nose size, shape and length is balanced with an adjustment of the chin size and shape. For this reason, genioplasty often compliments a rhinoplasty, and these procedures are sometimes performed together.

Recovery after Genioplasty

The recovery period is associated with some discomfort and downtime is required. Many resume normal activities, such as work and social outings, in a week or two.

Ear Surgery Otoplasty Case Study

Ear Surgery Otoplasty Case Study

As a craniofacial surgeon, Dr Hunt performs a number of ear procedures, also known as otoplasty. The most common reason patients will have otoplasty surgery is because they are concerned about the appearance of prominent ears.

Commonly patients will have their ears “pinned back” in an otoplasty procedure as a result, at around about 7 or 8 years of age or decide to undergo the surgery as a young adult.

Case Study – About Otoplasty or Ear Pinning Surgery

Otoplasty is generally performed under a general anaesthetic in a hospital that is fully accredited with the anaesthetic given by a fully accredited anaesthetist. An incision is made behind the ears so that the surgeon can access the cartilage underlying the skin and manipulate that to reposition it.

Case Study – Recovery Time after Otoplasty or Pinnaplasty Ear Surgery

Downtime from the surgery is approximately 7-10 days with a bandage in place. You should begin to notice a change in the appearance of your ears in just 2 to 3 weeks and you can return to normal physical sporting activities after 6 weeks. You should plan to take about two weeks off to recover from otoplasty as your ears will be swollen and discoloured. Full recovery usually takes around six weeks and a support headband must be worn at night for four weeks after surgery to prevent damage.

There are a number of things you can do to help your body recover, like getting lots of bed rest, limiting physical activity, eating well, drinking plenty of fluids and getting lots of sleep. Reduce your work social commitments for the advised length of time and follow Dr Hunt’s recovery instructions.

Breast Mastopexy with Augmentation Mammoplasty (Lift with Implants) Surgery Patient – Case Study

Breast Mastopexy with Augmentation Mammoplasty (Lift with Implants) Surgery Patient – Case Study

Patients seek Breast surgery for many different reasons, as each person has unique goals in mind. At times, the breast tissue and particularly the height of the nipple may need to be altered and re-elevated in a procedure called a mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift. A breast lift matopexy alone isn’t always adequate to achieve a patients desired look. In these circumstances, it can be combined with a breast reduction mammoplasty to decrease cup size or a breast implant (augmentation mammoplasty) to increase the cup size. It is not uncommon for patients to have other procedures performed at the same time, such as a tummy tuck/ abdominoplasty.

The outcomes shown are only relevant for this patient and do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience, as results may vary due to many factors including the individual’s genetics, diet and exercise.

Breast Lift with Implants Patient Before and After Image Side
This patient had a breast lift with 300cc round high profile implants. After photo was taken 3 months post-surgery – Case Study

Breast lifts with implants (mastopexy with augmentation mammoplasty) are often required when there has been significant breast laxity or stretched skin. This can be a result of pregnancy and breastfeeding or weight loss. There are also conditions where the nipple will be located particularly low on the breast mound, and in such cases, patients may be suitable for a breast mastopexy.

The outcomes shown are only relevant for this patient and do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience, as results may vary due to many factors including the individual’s genetics, diet and exercise.

Breast Lift with Implants Before and After - Dr Jeremy Hunt
Patient lost 80 kilos of weight over a 1.5 year period. Dr Hunt performed a breast mastopexy, tummy tuck/ abdominoplasty and lower body lift (torsoplasty) – Case Study

The type of incision required depends on the degree of alterations needed. Some surgeries may involve an incision around the nipple or the areola, while others may need a vertical incision down the front of the breast and this is what is commonly referred to as a “lollipop scar”. If a particularly large lift (mastopexy) is needed and there is excess skin underneath the breast, an incision is added in the fold under the breast.

The outcomes shown are only relevant for this patient and do not necessarily reflect the results other patients may experience, as results may vary due to many factors including the individual’s genetics, diet and exercise.

Case Study Mastopexy with Augmentation Mammoplasty (Lift with Implants) # 1

Case Study Mastopexy with Augmentation Mammoplasty (Lift with Implants) # 1

Patient Consultation – Concerns: Low nipple position and reduction of upper pole fullness after breastfeeding

The patient was a 33-year-old who had noticed changes in the shape of her breast following her pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding of her two children. The breast lift with implants (mastopexy with augmentation mammoplasty) was a suitable option for her particular case.

Pre-pregnancy she comfortably filled a C cup though, she now felt that she filled a B cup and was particularly concerned at drop in the height of her nipple as well as loss of fullness in the upper pole of the breast.

Surgical Solution: A Breast Lift with Implants – Augmentation Mammoplasty and Mastopexy Surgery

She consulted with Dr Hunt regarding a potential breast lift mastopexy combined with a breast augmentation mammoplasty to increase the volume of her breast as well as elevate the height of the nipple. The patient decided to have an augmentation mammoplasty with mastopexy (a breast lift with implants).

She also underwent an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) during the same surgical procedure to address the concerns in her lower abdomen.

Dr Jeremy Hunt performs a Breast Mastopexy with Augmentation Mammoplasty Surgery

Six months following her breast lift with implants (augmentation mammoplasty with mastopexy) surgery the scars are beginning to fade and she now fills a C cup if not small D cup. She has soft and mobile breast mounds bilaterally with intact sensation to the nipple on both sides. The patient had 205cc teardrop-shaped silicone implants inserted under the pectoralis muscle to create the C cup she desired.

Case Study of Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty # 2

This patient was a 29-year-old mother with three children; twins aged four and a 14-month-old baby. She was happy and followed a healthy lifestyle. The breast augmentation mammoplasty with implants was the recommended procedure for her – Case Study Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty

Patient Consultation – Concerns after Pregnancy, Childbirth and Breastfeeding

Following the births of her children and subsequent breastfeeding, Dr Hunt’s patient found that the size and shape of her breasts had changed, a concern that is common in women following childbirth.

The patient had a desire to increase her breast size so consulted with Dr Hunt regarding a breast augmentation mammoplasty with implants to increase her preoperative A cup to her desired C/D cup. On examination, Dr Hunt found BT to be a valid candidate for a bilateral breast augmentation mammoplasty. During the consultation process, we discussed her options and decided on teardrop-shaped, implants that would be inserted underneath the pectoralis muscle. The incision site would be in the inframammary fold at the bottom of each breast.

Dr Jeremy Hunt performs Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty Surgery

BT’s surgery was performed as a day procedure. Dr Hunt used cohesive silicone gel anatomic, or teardrop-shaped implants under the muscle.

Most patients can return to their daily activities 6 weeks after the surgery.

Customising Your Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty

Patients consider a breast augmentation mammoplasty to increase the volume or cup size of their breasts.

The procedure needs to be tailored to each individual patient’s needs and in the decision-making process, decisions will be made with regard to:

  1. Location of the incision, be it in the fold under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit.
  2. Location of the implant, be it in front of the pec muscle, behind the pec muscle or in a dual plane position combining part of the implant under the muscle and part of the implant under the breast tissue.
  3. The implant shape will need to be determined to be a round implant or a teardrop or an anatomic-shaped implant, and this will be decided by patient preference.
  4. The implant fill will either be a silicone-filled implant or a saline-filled implant, which will offer different properties and again is discussed with the patient, so the patient can make an informed decision.
  5. Implant volume. During the consultation process, we use an implant sizing system, so that patients can understand what particular volume of implant will achieve what type of appearance when placed into a bra on their body and frame. We find this is the most helpful for patients and they will often try on different sized implants a number of times as well as bring a family member or take photographs in their favourite items of clothing.

This process then ensures that each patient who undergoes a breast augmentation mammoplasty has a tailored operation to suit their needs and expectations.
